The SkyWheel in Myrtle Beach (SC), USA started operations in May 2011.
This wheel is probably the first destination wheel according the Dutch Wheels definition as it combines the wheel with a surf shop, merchandizing area and a restaurant with terrace overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Myrtle Beach itself is one of the hot-spots on the east coast and a popular spring break destination.
The SkyWheel Myrtle Beach is an original 53 meter R60SV, the stationary version of the popular R60SP traveling wheel and carries 42, 6-person gondolas. The wheel was built locally by Chance Rides, under license of Dutch Wheels.
