Our History

The history of Dutch Wheels starts in 1926. In this year Veld Koning Machinefabriek started operations as a supplier of machines for agriculture in the small town of Vlodrop.

In the 50’s the company started to produce steel beams for coal mining constructions. The focus shifted from agriculture to coal mining. The company name was abbreviated to Vekoma.

After the coal mines closed in the Netherlands, Vekoma shifted its focus to building constructions for the petrochemical industry. It was this expertise that moved the company into the amusement industry.

In the 70’s Vekoma was contracted by Arrow Dynamics to construct the steel supports for their roller coasters in Europe. The demand for roller coasters kept increasing which led to Vekoma being licenced by Arrow to construct their roller coasters in Europe.

It was around that time that Dutch Wheels' history started. In 1968 the first Ferris wheel was built.

In the following decades Vekoma delivered more and more Ferris wheels. In 2008 a separate Ferris wheel division was started called Dutch Wheels, and so our company was born.

In 2018 Dutch Wheels separated completely from its parent and moved to its own new headoffice in Weert, the Netherlands.
